A STUDY OF EFFECT OF HAEMODIALYSIS ON LEFT VENTRICULAR MASS IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE
Keywords:
Chronic kidney disease; haemodialysis; left ventricular mass; left ventricular hypertrophy; echocardiography; LV mass index; volume overload.Abstract
Background: Cardiovascular disease isthe major cause of morbidity and mortalityamong patients with advanced chronickidney disease (CKD), and structuralcardiac abnormalities, particularly leftventricular hypertrophy (LVH), are highlyprevalent in patients receivinghaemodialysis. Chronic volume overload, hypertension, anaemia, mineral-boneabnormalities and uraemiccardiomyopathy contribute to increasedleft ventricular mass (LVM).
